WET in the City professional
development workshops are designed with urban educators in
mind. Each 6-hour training provides formal and nonformal teachers
of
K-12 students with a comprehensive overview of the WET
in the City Curriculum and Activity Guide, as well as
practical hands-on training in its implementation. Workshop
facilitators also share information about city water features
and pertinent local water issues and help participants become
networked into the water education community in their city.
Each
participating educator receives a complimentary copy of the
WET in the City Curriculum and Activity Guide and
a certificate indicating 6-hours of professional development
training upon completion of the workshop.

Facilitators
(or educator trainers), a core group of individuals committed
to educating other about water and water-related issues, serve
as the "beating heart" of the growing WET in the
City network. They are on the front lines providing 6-hour
WET in the City professional development workshops to educators
throughout their cities and communities. During workshops,
they model WET in the City activities and share their often
extensive inside knowledge of local water lore and current
city water issues.
Many facilitators
are professional employees of institutions (nature centers,
museums, universities, parks, zoos, etc.) that already provide
professional development opportunities to educators as a regular
part of doing business. Other facilitators are volunteers,
among them enthusiastic classroom teachers, dedicated retired
persons and others who conduct workshops in their spare time
out of a desire to educate and share their expertise with
others.
After participating
in a 6-hour WET in the City Educator Training Workshop, educators
are invited to attend an advanced 12-hour training workshop
to become a certified WET in the City Facilitator. Those who
successfully complete the 12-hour workshop will be considered
active facilitators provided that they present a minimum of
one WET in the City Educator Training Workshop per year. In
addition to conducting workshops, facilitators are responsible
for maintaining regular communication with their city's local
WET in the City Coordinator (see below) to learn of new water
"happenings," advise of upcoming workshops, order
WET in the City guides and other materials, and submit required
program paperwork including completed workshop evaluations.
Facilitators are also expected to work with their City Coordinator
to market their upcoming workshops.

Are
you an administrator, faculty or staff member at an urban
elementary or middle school (grades K-8)? Are you interested in using a
top quality, unbiased, hands-on, minds-on, multi-disciplinary
curriculum to address national and state education standards
requirements while instilling an environmental and water stewardship
ethic in your students? Would you like your students to continue
to develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills as
they go beyond the curriculum and work together to complete
water stewardship projects on your campus or in your community?
If you answered
yes to these questions, your school may be ready to join the
Team—Team WET Schools! All you need to get started is:
- a local sponsor to support the
program in your school,

to serve as "team leader" for your school, and

Looking
for a ready-made, comprehensive water education program to
help your organization meet its public education and outreach
goals? Would you like to manage a network of facilitators
(or teacher trainers, see above) dedicated to helping you
educate teachers in your community about water and water-related
issues in your city and beyond? If so, you may be interested
in becoming a WET in the City "City Coordinator."
As a City Coordinator
you work with CEE to develop a local WET in the City program
to meet your needs and the needs of your community. To a large
extent, the demands of your role will depend on the scope
of your city's specific program, but you may expect your responsibilities
to include fostering and maintaining a network of WET in the
City workshop Facilitators (providing recognition, keeping
records, ordering WET in the City guides, assisting with marketing,
etc.), promoting WET in the City within your community, and
maintaining records and reporting progress to the National
Office.
CEE will support
you in your role as City Coordinator in a number of ways.
Our listserv and WET Works newsletter
will keep you informed of the latest and greatest developments
with our WET in the CIty and Team WET Schools programs. You
will also be invited to participate in our WET in the City
Annual Meeting. The meeting represents a great forum for idea
exchange and networking among City Coordinators, as well as,
an opportunity professional development.
Your organization
may choose to be the sole sponsor to bring WET in the City
to your city, or organizations may partner to share in the
sponsorship role. A third option involves a partnership where
one organization serves as a training partner and provides
a Coordinator for the program and another organization serves
as a funding partner.

WET
in the City and Team WET Schools provide many opportunites
for sponsorship at both the national and local level. With
over 30 years experience as a leader in the field of environmental
education, CEE works hard to ensure that funding dollars are
leveraged efficiently to support development and expansion
of quality water education programs and materials.
Sponsors may choose to "adopt"
WET in the City and/or Team WET Schools and work with CEE
to implement a local program to help meet public education
goals and promote water stewardship among urban youth in their
city. Others may choose to fund CEE's development of new quality
water education materials such as our
WET
in the City Spanish Language Student Pages
or our Water
Watchers: Conserving Water at Your School and Home
school water audit guide. Sponsors might also fund smaller
local project and initiatives associated with existing WET
in the City and Team WET Schools programs. For example, a
sponsor might support the printing of t-shirts for a WET in
the City city-wide water festival or provide funds to individual
Team WET Schools to support student water stewardship projects.
The opportunity and possibilities are endless for leveraging
sponsorship dollars to support quality urban water education.

| "WET
in the City has become the cornerstone of the City's
water education program for students K-12. Our partnership
with CEE started more than four years ago, and continues
to leverage our limited budget. By implementing WET
in the City we can guarantee our community a quality
and cost-effective water education program. This program
enables our limited staff to deliver materials and manage
a network of teacher trainers while greatly multiplying
our outreach to urban youth."

CEE
is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) educational organization formed
in 1970 by representatives of natural resource and education
agencies. CEE's mission is to provide environmental education
programs and services that promote stewardship of the environment
and further the capacity of learners to make informed decisions.
At the national level, CEE administers Project WILD, Project
WILD Aquatic, WET in the City, Team WET Schools and Flying
WILD and is a founding co-sponsor of Project Learning Tree
and Project WET. The policy and direction of the Council is
governed by a Board of Directors comprised primarily of natural

maintenance, etc.
The
CEE office, a smoke-free workplace, is located in an attractive
"pedestrian friendly" shopping and restaurant district in
West University Village near the museum district and Rice
University in Houston, Texas. Nearby (within one hour) recreational
areas include Galveston beaches, Armand Bayou nature preserve,
Clear Lake boating and fishing area and numerous freshwater
lakes. CEE is an equal opportunity
employer.
See Contact
Us for a list of current employees and their titles.
CEE also often contracts
professional curriculum writers, graphic designers, typesetters,
printers, curriculum experts and others to support program
projects. If you are a freelancer who thinks you have special
talents that may benefit our program and curriculum development
efforts, please contact us
to discuss the possibilities.
