The WET in the City network is comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders, partners and participants ranging from business leaders and private foundations to city water utilities and governmental organizations to school and district administrators, teachers and their students.



   

Houston, Texas:
City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering Water Conservation Program
Serving as both a national and local sponsor, the City of Houston has been a WET in the City partner since its inception in 1999. By managing a network of active facilitators at venues such as the Museum of Health and Medical Science, the Bellaire Nature Discovery Center and others across the city, the Houston WET in the CIty Coordinator is able to greatly multiply the impact and outreach of the City's water education efforts. The City of Houston also uses WET in the City activities, such as "A Recipe For Clean Water, an activity that raises awareness of the many hazardous household chemicals we use in our homes every day and challenges participants to create and test less toxic alternatives. as an integral component to their annual city-wide water festival.

Irving, Texas:

City of Irving Public Works/Water Utilities
The City of Irving Public Works/Water Utilities has partnered with the Council for Environmental Education to bring WET in the City to Irving, Texas . During the first year of this partnership, more than 100 educators will be trained to bring WET in the City into their classrooms with the aim of reaching more than 6,000 youth. In addition, the Council for Environmental Education will work with the City of Irving to host a water festival on May 12, 2007.

Miami, Florida:

Miami Dade County 's Water and Sewer Department

As a local partner Miami Dade County 's Water and Sewer Department has supported WET in the City's educator workshops since Fall 2005. The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department is committed to serving the needs of Miami-Dade County by providing for future economic growth via progressive planning and implementing water conservation measures. The Miami-Dade Water Use Efficiency Five-Year Plan is part of a long-range water conservation planning process which incorporates the goal of responsible water stewardship by educating the public through the WET in the City educator workshops.   Within one year, WET in the City will reach over 100 educators from Miami Dade Schools and other environmental education providers. The goal for the program in Miami includes reaching educators throughout Southern Florida .

DC Department of Health

The DC WET in the CIty Coordinator works directly with schools to provide professional development training in the use of the WET in the CIty Curriculum and Activity Guide and uses activities to promote environmental health and the WET in the CIty program at fairs and other community events. The DC Department of Health is currently developing a strategy for conducting WET in the City community festiivals.
