In 2003, the Indianapolis
Clean Stream Team (ICST) partnered with the Council for Environmental
Education to launch three Team WET Schools in the City of
Indianapolis. Teachers and students from John Marshall, Harshman
and McFarland middle schools were supported by volunteers
from the Indianapolis
Department of Public Works, ICST and other local
water professionals. These professionals not only provided
expertise in local water issues and assistance with student
water stewardship projects, but also access to a wealth of
material resources (maps & photos of Indianapolis water
resources, etc.) that enabled teachers at Indianapolis Team
WET Schools to localize lessons from the WET in the City
Curriculum and Activity Guide.
Funding
from ICST also supported the development of correlations between
the Indianapolis State Curriculum Standards and the WET
in the City Curriculum and Activity Guide. The correlations
are a valuable resource that enables teachers to incorporate
WET in the City activities into their existing curriculum
while continuing to meet state education standards.

Team WET Schools program on September 29, 2003 to celebrate
John Marshall Middle School's designation as the first Indianapolis
Team WET School. Within a month, teachers received Team WET
Schools training and began to lead water education activities
