CEE piloted the Team
WET Schools program in 2002 at Hogg Middle School, an urban,
sixth through eighth-grade campus located just northwest of
downtown Houston, Texas. We wanted to "work" this
exciting new program close to home to gain first-hand experience
with the ins and outs of local water education efforts in
urban areas. In 2003 the Team WET Schools program expanded
to middle schools in San Antonio, Texas and Indianapolis,
Indiana. Local partners embraced the Team WET Schools model
with much enthusiasm and worked with us to localize the program
to address water-related issues inherent and unique to their
cities. In 2004 we welcomed our first elementary schools to
the growing Team WET Schools family, and then in 2005 a school
in Galveston, Texas joined the Team WET team. Most recently,
a number of schools in cities across Texas have joined the
program. We are working to ensure that the Team WET Schools
family continues to grow...one school at a time, city by city,
with new partners offering resources and support to further
the water education and stewardship efforts of urban schools
in their local communities.
