CEE Programs

CEE recently partnered with the Rice University Department of Education to conduct a follow up survey of WET in the City-trained educators to determine their use of and opinions about the WET in the City curriculum. Data collected on workshop evaluation forms was compiled and phone interviews were conducted with various user groups. CEE plans to continue this evaluation project into the new year. This vital feedback will enable us to further refine the WET in the City curriculum and workshops to continue to meet the needs of participating educators.

CEE is currently working to develop a Student Pre-test/Post-test Evaluation Instrument for use with its Team WET Schools program. The tool will be used to gauge a baseline regarding students' knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards water and water resources before and after participating in WET in the City activities and completing water stewardship projects through the Team WET Schools program.

The high level of teacher, student and community participation in the implementation of water stewardship projects is an indicator of effective water education. Water stewardship projects so far have included a water conservation festival, water quality monitoring, and plans for a schoolyard habitat and pond installation. As water stewardship projects continue to unfold, the natural progression from water education to water awareness and ultimately to water conservation becomes more apparent. Following completion of a school's water stewardship project, each school is asked to provide feedback on the successes and challenges of the chosen student water stewardship project, rate their experiences working with CEE and local partners, indicate which resources were most valuable and how others could be improved, and make proposals for continued participation in the program.

Team WET Schools has been designed for nationwide implementation. The WET in the City guide is appropriate for urban areas across the US, and each Team WET stewardship project can bring a wide variety of local community partners and resources together around a school building to further water education and address local water issues. In developing a national Adopt-A-Team WET School model, CEE hopes to share the success of the Team WET Schools model with cities throughout the nation.
